21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”(which means “God with us”).
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Texting, while convenient, can limit the depth of our communication. Body language, tone of voice, and facial expressions are crucial elements that are often lost in text-based conversations. In-person interactions, however, provide a more comprehensive understanding of the other person's message, fostering deeper and more meaningful connections. Often, we feel closer to the person we are talking to when we have an in-person interaction. Texting also leads to “situational connection,” only reaching out to the other person when we feel like it or want to.
Our relationship with God should be like an in-person conversation. Rather than going to God only when we feel like it, we should be with him on a daily basis. One way to do this is to sit and listen in a quiet, distraction free environment. What is God trying to say to you at that moment? What does it look like for you to be with God in your everyday life?
Read Deuteronomy 31:6 while one person is watching a video and another another person sits quietly. Afterward, ask them to recall what they remember. Discuss how distractions make it harder to hear and engage with God, and how He wants our full attention.
God, we confess that we are distracted and don’t give you our full attention enough. Help us to eliminate the distractions in our lives that keep us from you.
